(My translation of Fabien’s text)
Positions
The night of ideals? Yes, it is here now, that mode of political existence that from now on is ours: the end of any will to revolution, of all emancipatory ambition, the acceptance of the order things, or, in other words a resignation at the empire of consumption, an indifference to the beaten dogs of the world. Such is the way, wiser now, more sober or triumphant that we live. In truth. It is essential to know, however partial and fragmented, the political, social, economical structures that have created our current situation. These structures we name: virtual democracy. Thus, we call our system a virtual democracy, and we will start to organise the history of humanity since several decennia, through the strange figure of a vain political life. That vanity is proper to the epoche. It is the sign of the rotten western decadence. Like a coincidence, it has been accomplished silently. In general, history has consisted of violence and oppositions, that is it say a battle between despotism and emancipatory will. From now on we’ll have none of that, but the clammy-handed acceptance of the nullity of our destiny as political beings. It could very well have been that at first, not having rights to anything, being flattened between the deadly structures of a transcendental power, being a soldier or a slave, or even better or more justly, the contrary, resistant or revolutionary, we’ve been engaging this proper life in the name of an Ideal more or less consciously. But today, the weak of will, lucidly, more conscious than ever, let themselves be pulled along the joy in accepting these structures. We feign our believe in the consequences of the Just and the Right. As if our epoch can make an exception with regard to evil or permanent rule of insufficiency. We surely gained this: we wallow within habilitated structures a bit more sufficiently, all the more satisfied by the less poor or the less financially capable amongst ourselves; but we have lost the sense that there is for man, a desire to fight for an Ideal, that is to say, to battle for the impossible until it is proven to be impossible.
